Medical Question....?? Please Respond!

OK...Mumsie here temporarily takin' over the blog...

Um...somehow Scruffy found a tampon tonight...Lac was barkin' at him and I tossed a piece of candy at him so he dropped the plastic applicator and the wrapper. No sign of the absorbent part...DID HE EAT IT???? I looked all over the house...checked the garbage...no luck.

I called the emergency vet and got the order to give the poor dog hydrogen perioxide...I WILL ALWAYS HAVE A 5 cc SRYINGE HERE FOR FUTURE BATTLES. "Now Scruffy...would you care to sip this peroxide down?"....we had a huge battle culminating in peroxide covering my floor, walls and shirt. None down Scruffy.

John came home and helped me hold him...2 minutes later he tossed his dinner up...but NO TAMPON. I don't even know if he ate the damn thing...for that matter I have NO IDEA where he got it from...not having needed them for a couple of years...all I can think is one fell out of my daughter's purse over Christmas and he found it today? (When in doubt, blame the kids...)

I'm waiting for the emergency vet to call back...receptionist was thinking they would want to xray him...um...I don't think a tampon would show up on xray, would it?????? Pooooooooor Scruffy....it was totally pathetic and truly disgusting...John refused to photograph it...you may thank him....I would have, but never mind.

Scruffy is very tired now and seems to be exacting his revenge against me by expressing the most noxious smelling farts imaginable...

Has any doggie out there ever swallowed a tampon????

Let me know....

Barkies...er um....

Kissies...

Mumsie

Peanut has not only eaten tampons but he has eaten pads too. He always throws them up within a couple of days with no problems. The first time it happened my vet said to just watch him to see if he lost his appetite or had problems going to the bathroom and if not they would most likely come out on there own. Hopefully he will be okay.

A tampon very well may show up on an x ray. I love the shows Emergency Vets and E Vet Interns on Animal Planet, and they've had some tiny things show up on x rays: a pencil eraser in a ferret's stomach, a tiny clear plastic bottle cap in a terrier's stomach. The first thing I thought was "they'll need to do an x ray to see if the tampon shows up."

Fingers crossed for you!

If I swallowed a what? I haven't swallowed anything in my life, almost a toy mouse, but just that, mom did the same as Khyra's so we'll see too

I'll pray to you to be safe

Oh, how stressful for you all. Cooper used to eat just about everything he came in contact with his first year of life, but never a tampon. My vet used to recommend bread with a lot of butter on it to help push stuff out. The x-ray may not be a bad idea, though, because those tampons can swell up pretty big and they are designed not to come out when they do.

Tampons have been ingested, and passed, without problem... We hope Scruffy is fine. Maybe he only found the empty applicator and wrapper, if the tampon had been flushed ???

Aw, Scruffy!

We know you're a scavenger, but c'MON! You need to get a little self respect, buddy. As for flushing, the only thing that's been flushed so far is your dignity, man.

Hopefully you'll just pass that thing right through if you swallowed it. If you didn't swallow it, bummer about the peroxide. My girl had to force feed her Rosie Dale some of that when Rosie ate a whole bottle of ibuprofen. Nasty nasty.

Extra goob smooches to you and to Mumsie for all her hard work & worrying. Keep us posted.

Goober love,
STanely

A tampon will show up on X-ray, I know. When I went for X-rays for my hip it was that time of the month and there it was right in front of me on the X-ray....it was funny! Not funny when a dog eats them though. Deetz has a thing for them too. The string can tangle in there intestines. I am sure he just shredded it somewhere, or it could be it was one he got out of the trash that had already been used and there was no tampon in it.

Better safe then sorry!
Please keep us posted

Scruffman, just because you can doesn't always mean you should. Are you sure that lacie gal didn't eat it and was barking at you for stealing the rest from her?

I swallowed a sock and we had a little foster dog that swallowed an ace bandage. Both of these objects were eventually returned.

Momma says keep an eye on what goes in and comes out (as if your mom doesn't already do that). X-ray wouldn't hurt either (except for maybe mumsie's wallet).

In the future, if you are going to consume a non-foodable you need to be better about clearing up the evidence.

That is scary stuff. I hope Scruffy didn't eat a tampon! I think since you only found him with the applicator and the wrapper, that maybe that's all he found. Maybe the tampon had already been disposed of. Do you really think Scruffy would have swallowed a tampon? Keeley would have probably just shredded it up since he loves to shred paper towels, tissues, napkins, and such. Does the emergency vet think that a tampon would show up on an xray? Maybe one xray wouldn't be a bad idea then. At least it could give you some peace of mind, right?

Let's hope it was a packaging error and maybe the fluffy part was never in the applicator! Our mom knows all about the peroxide thingy. One time, one of her doggies (not US) ate a whole bottle of her other doggie's heart pills...a bottle of 100! The vet said to take her out on the deck, force 2 tablespoons of peroxide into her and then run like hell. He said she would throw up like the girl in the Exorcist! Boy, was he right!

We sure hope the Scruffman is okay!

OMG, we're really late getting here! We are so sorry to hear this, Scruffy! Neither one of us has ever swallowed one of those "things"! We hope you pass it soon and your tummy feels better from your icky cocktail!

Love ya lots,

Oh gee! I just saw this post! Sorry to hear what happened. We have not swallowed a tampon or any other foreign objects before(we are good girls.) So I don't know what would happen or what you should do. If he did swallow, just hope that it comes out either way, it doesn't matter.

Oh dear!!

Scruffy may have done what????

Or he may have done nothing at all and had to endure that torture!!! Oh my dear Scruffy! How awful. Sounds like you may need a nurse, my Scruffy dear.

What is going on there in the Burgh, between you and the Johnannson dogs? Have you guys been pawterying too much celebrating the Steelers???
