Mumsie here...a decade older than I was yesterday...upon arising I took the dogs out for their morning use of the outdoor facilities. It had snowed AGAIN....they were romping as usual and I grabbed a shovel to see how much snow we had on the driveway. I noticed Lacie wasn't pestering the boyz as she usually does...after a little while of shoveling I walked to the back to see what she was doing...no Lacie...I checked under the deck where she has a habit of getting stuck....no Lacie...I called and called her, but no response. PANIC!
I ran inside and grabbed a box of Cheerios and just stood there not knowing where even to look. We have woods on three sides of our yard.... tons of snow, 22 degrees still snowing hard and she um well HAD NO COLLARS ON. Nothing...well, she HAD just rolled out of bed and they are really good with the property lines. Not today. I could have kicked myself. Hard.
I went to the far back edge of our yard where they have NEVER tried to escape. There were fresh pawprints. Yes, I attemped to track her....and it worked. Between screeching for her, shaking the cheerio box and following those tiny pawprints, I found her. She was waaaaaaaaaay back in the woods. And cold and shaking. So was I!! It was like looking for a needle in a haystack. I am so grateful!
I checked her electric collar and found it wasn't even working...not that it was even on her. It will be fixed pronto and they will NOT go out without them ever again...we will be reviewing the boundaries...
When interviewed, Lacie made these comments:
"Honestly, Mumsie, I don't know why the &*&# I went back there. I mean, I hadn't even had my breakfast. It's so unusual for me to be the troublemaker.....I'm actually surprised you saw me...I mean, my derriere is so tiny that when I turn sideways I'm totally invisible...."
Sheesch...alls well that ends well....
Still quaking in her boots,
Mumsie

Poor Mumsie must have been sooo scared...I bet you were, too...
Abby xxxooo
Lacie!
Please don't do that again!
I am sure you gave Mumsie a veeeery scary time!
Take care
Kisses and hugs
Lorenza
Lacie???!!!?!?!?!?! What, were you headed west coming to visit me? Of course I'd love to have you visit, but you should have told Mumsie first!!!!
So glad you are home!!!
Lots of Licks, Ruby
Yikes ! That is very scary ! We are so glad you were found Lacie - and I think mumsie deserves a very strong adult beverage !
No more wandering, okay ?
Love
Opy
Lacie! I was just pawing out a message to you and was ready to head to bed for the night, and this is what I found! You've got my adrenaline pumping through me double time. I'll never be able to sleep. We'll all probably have nightmares. We can only imagine what Mumsie must still be feeling ... and how she felt looking for you! PLEEZE don't ever do that again. If you're consumed by wanderlust, please call. There are other ways to satisfy that need to travel. Like. In a box. You can come here anytime. But please don't wander away like you did. Okay, GF? Please? None of us sensitive types can take that kind of stress.
Love
Fergi (and Jake)
Pee esS. Do you have any special recipes for German smoothies? They're prob'ly gonna be in high demand.
Laci,
Wow, you are a lucky little terrier girl your Mommy found you. Please don't do that again. You fit in your family. We here in my house are dealing with something that can lead to loss, so you must not do anything to lead to your loss at your house. Be strong, and stay with your family.
Sally Ann
Brrrr! Lacie! I bet you froze yer bum off is why it was so hard for yer Mumsie to find you! Did Scruffy hurt yer feelings with that awful post? Don't run away...get even! Do those electric dog collar thingys work with 2 feets of snow on top of the buried wire? I'm thinking you need a spa day to recover from the shock n cold...definitely yer Mumsie needs one. Stay close by the fire for a while. Frozen Lacie Popsicle is downright skeeerreee to contemplate.
Bonnie
Oh Lacie,
That was awful. You could have been frozen just like a pupsycle. Or buried in a avalanche. Or eaten by the abnormal snowman. Or... I shutter to even think about it.
And, Mumsie, life with terriers is never easy, but it is interesting.
Glad everything ended well. All except for Lacie, Scruffie, and BabyStan, that is. You guys just lost your freedom.
Busted! Mom would have been mad and glad and upset and relieved and all those crazy emotions for sure! bol...
Stella, Gunther and Betty
OH NO_ HOW Scary! That would make my D really freak out to - just cry and possibly have an accident in her trousers! Please do not do that to your humans again - their hearts do not need stopping or over beating at any time!
Glad you are home - safe and sound and warm!

Oh we know the feeling when panic sets in, and the relief when they are found. They should put tracker things in the chips. I am sure it would be possible.
Thank doG mumsie found you, Lacie! It's too cold for you to wander off this time of year!
Have you and mumsie warmed up yet?!
Love ya lots,
Maggie and Mitch
Well, the good news is that with all your fat reserves you would have survived OK out in the cold. But seriously, did you think you were going to go out and hunt up a rabbit for breakfast or something?
I can tell you from experience that the humans are most groggy in the morning, especially when there is bad weather involved and you need to keep an eye on them, not be going off on your own adventures.
Mumsie cannot afford to have years taken from her by fretting over your small self. Get with the program you little rascal.
Slobbers,
Mango
Oh, Mumsie!
Bless your heart!! Tell Lacie that it is only polite to tell you where she is going! I'm so happy those tiny paw prints led you to her!
Love,
Janie
Glad Mumsie found you and that you answer to cheerios! This has given my homie a strategy for finding me if I ever wriggle out of my collar. Though I would require the infernal squeaking of my Good Cuz or my homie squeezing a squirrel. Whichever's easier.
While I would never recommend putting yourself in the position of letting the homies win, you might want to curl up at your Mumsie's feet to keep them warm. Appease the silly humans and all.
Stay warm!
Phew!
At least Mumsie had the discretion not to mention that she found you wedged between two trees that were at least 3 feet apart! She sure got to the "bottom" of your disappearance!
Now behave yourself, Missy. Such behavior could land you in the Naughty Dogs group at Mango Minster instead of with the highly esteemed and intelligent Terriers.
I'm sending up an alligator or two to patrol those woods. Don't worry, they're hibernating so they may be a bit sleepy.
Your pal,
Petey
OMD Lacie...your poor Mumsie. And we are sure that Scruffman and Stanny were worried too. (yeah?)
And girlfriend, muzzer went and upped the charge on MY collar...so you'd best be makin' me a special smoothie next time we get together.
kisses
Teka
Lacie, Lacie, Lacie...
You must have scared Mumsie out of her mind! I am quite upset with you!
My advice for today is to reeeaaallly suck up.
WHAT WERE YOU THINKING????????there I got it out of my system..as for Archie?????FLAT OUT COLD FOR THREE HOURS NOW............and PL2 keeps going to this cabinet and taking stuff out and slinging it back into her throat......GEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH girlfriend....Love A+A
Laciegirl, Was there a big bad wolf whistling for you and offering you fame and fortune if you only hopped into his ATV?????
Our Mom knows what it's like to panic when one of us disappears -- if only for a few minutes. But in the snow? And the woods???? Oy!!!
We hope you give Mumsie days and days -- if not years -- of contrite behavior -- to go along with that adult beverage.
Wirey woofs,
Jake and Just Harry
Wow, that must have been so scary. We have a five foot fence with invisible fence inside it. But we don't wear our collars any more since we aren't too much of diggers any more. But Mom knows how much she would freak out if one of us was missing. So glad this had a happy ending.
Woos, Phantom and Thunder
Well thank dog it snowed or she could have been half way to Erie before you found her. Lacie is a bad bad girl and should be grounded and CERTAINLY kept away from Mango Minster. Not that I am scared that she will show up or anything. ok maybe a tiny bit. Just a TINY bit, not like her bum. LOL
MUMSIE!!!
I HAVE MISSED YOU, sweet Mumsie! My girl sucks as a correspondent for me, but I'm back for now and am SO STINKIN' GLAD your tracking skills were up to snuff. Stella loves to run in the snow too, but could freeze her tiny Lakie tushy off in no time flat. Since Lacie has an even tinier tushy than Stella, I'm guessing she was half-way to becoming a terriercicle.
Please hand out goober smooches all around at your house, and take the juiciest ones for yourself. I hope you had a great christmas and new years. I'm hoping I'll get a chance to catch up on all you've been doing.
Goober love,
Stanley
You have no idea how familiar this sounded to me. The times that Hootie has "gone missing" have made me near hysterical...seems it only happens when he has no ID on him too. Glad it ended well.
X-Cassie (the human)
Seems like we've heard this story before. Hmmm. Sure glad that little Lacie is okay and in her warm home once again. You know Hootie is still crazy for her.
Smooches, BabyRD
Oh dear Laciegirl what would I do if you got lost? My heart would break. Were you looking for me in those woods??
XXX-Hootie
OMdoG Lacie, it's not a good thing to give your mom (and us) such a scare in the first few days of the new year!! Glad that your mumsie found you, but I hope you aren't grounded for the rest of 2010...
Oh dear.. that's so scary. I'm glad you're home with your mum now..
~ Bae
So. Lacie. How was your nekked sauna in the snow? Lucky you decided to go it alone and not take the boys. Could of taken Mumsie though eh? Naughty naughty. Very inconsiderate.
You know Miss Enid had to be revived by smelling salts on her Blacie hankie when I told her. Square Mom too. She was horrified and got all upset for poor Mumsie sends her hugs n stuffie. Miss Enid enquired if perhaps you might be in need of a chap er one or two? I told her you had 486 chaps already. 487 if you count poor lovesick Hootie.... Which reminds me. Must wag over n bark to him.
Be happy chained up n the naughty corner.
Wiry love n squillions of kisses Eric xxxxx
Nothing like aging in a few seconds when the pups get lost.
Poor Lacie! And poor Mumsie! That is always so scary when I run away...I mean...get lost.
Lacie Dawling
Now I know you wead that awticle about the benefits of wolling in the snow aftew a hot sauna ow hot tub, but it NEVEW said anything about combining it wif a mawathon wun...I'm not suwe I can get you out of this jam anytime soon..Mumsie is still shaking fwom what mommi tells me
Hope bof of you thawed out
smoochie kisses
ASTA
Oh Lacie, You have to stick around home, because that's were the foodables are. Trust me. It is really not worth hunting for your own. Besides, there are no cushy beds in the woods.
xo
SB
Oh.... your Mom will be older quick with you...
Kisses, Faya
We're glad that she was found and is okay. We're not exactly sure why it's so fun to scare our humans like that. It's a dog thing.
Woof,
Keeley & Teagan
I pull The Great Escape every so often myself, just to keep Mom on her toes. Most of her grey hairs she attributes to me and My Boy anyway, might as well earn them.
Seriously, glad you are safe back home after your adventure. Have some Cherrios and warm yourself up before doing that again.
Happy Tails,
William Tell
Oh Lacie you are a little rascal. To run away from home is very naughty but to do it when the weather is so awful is a bit daft.
We are so glad Mumsie's tracking skills are so good and she found you so quickly.
Molly, Taffy and MOnty
Lacie my dear... you can't run away. You have a contest to enter. I put up a score card to guide your selections! But geez... eat your breakfast first before you go off on your gaunt.! Mom needs a little shake up now and then. I hope you got some sweet treats out of this one.
norwood
Sheesh, that Lacie girl has some nerve...
